Bugs Repellent
Bugs repellents come in many brands, shapes, and chemical components. And most of them contain DEET a chemical compound invented for the U.S. military in the ’40s. The minor side effects of DEET are skin rash to major seizures in some cases. If you do a quick search on DEET you can observe that DEET is highly toxic when inhaled, and absorbed by the skin or swallowed.
WHAT!!! the whole purpose of mosquito repellents is to Spray as it comes in a can most of the time or rub it on my skin when it’s lotion. That is frustrating!!! I even read at healthresearchfunding.org/ website that DEET can cause brain cells to die. I think I better get bit by mosquitos than have my brain cells died in the process.
Smart advertising trick…have you ever heard PICARIDIN name yet?!! if not all those mosquito repellents you bought that says on the label with bold letter DEET free has this similar compound to DEET. Picaridin can also be found in the black pepper plant and cause the same side effects in our body.
Here is another ingredient that makes you feel better about purchasing brain killer mosquito repellent … OIL OF LEMON EUCALYPTUS. It sounds very refreshing and has an active ingredient compound p-menthane-3,8-diol (PMD) But do not mistake this with essential oil equivalent.
I feel dizzy after reading all of these wonderful chemicals and how harmful they are to our bodies. Why not using essential oils instead, by simply applying some citronella oils on your skin area that are exposed or Lemon eucalyptus essential oils. It is very easy to make your own roll-on at home and here is a quick recipe I use for myself and it is very effective for bugs and ticks as well. Still, I recommend to consult with your doctor before using any essential oils, also keep in mind you need to body inspect yourself and anyone else after any outdoor trip and camping for ticks.
Essential oils to add:
Citronella essential oil
Lemongrass essential oil
Rosemary essential oil
Geranium essential oil
Spearmint essential oil
Clove essential oil (A quick link if you want to purchase one instead)
The main and important aspect of the aromatherapy mixing rule for drops is that 20 drops per mL of essential oil. This mixing rule highly depends on the viscosity (thickness) of an oil. The thicker the oil the fewer drops per mL and vice versa. Most rolls on glasses in the markets are 10 mL, if we do our calculation right, we need to have almost 8 drops from each essential oils recommended for our roll-on and add any career oil to the rest of the bottle. Enjoy your HARSH chemical-free mosquito repellent !!! Mine last for about all summer using for my two kids, myself and my husband.
Please leave your recipe at the bottom as well I would love to hear about your experience as well.
